This was the third BOPAS Forum which is programmed to be held on a 6 monthly basis. The purpose of the Forums is threefold; to create awareness of the evolution of the BOPAS Scheme, to receive feedback from BOPAS Stakeholders as to their views and to create awareness of trends and innovations in the offsite sector.
The Forum served as the official launch of the new BOPAS website and the expert speaker panel provided a diverse but authoritative insight into the challenges, opportunities and support available to the sector.
A Welcome and introduction to the Forum and his company was provided by Jonathan Wilson CEO of CITU, who were hosting the event.
The theme for the Forum, as previously, was that of Digitisation and this was pursued by a number of speakers; the Key Note Speaker Sam Stacey CEO of Stacx International on the subject of Transformation within the Construction Sector, Mark Thorley CEO of KOPE, in presenting the recently launched MMC Market software platform and Charlotte Garrett Co- lead on the Offsite Alliance Digital Workstream who detailed the aims and objectives of the recently established workstream. Whilst Mark Davis, Managing Director of Ela8 identified the route to gaining tax relief on R&D specifically related to digitisation.
The digital theme was further pursued by JP Catz Director of Structural Engineering, WSP when presenting the Buildoffsite New Guide on Offsite Construction and Design.
Embodied carbon was identified as representing a conundrum for the construction industry, regulators and government, in pursuit of zero carbon, but served as an opportunity for the Offsite sector, in The Carbon Challenge presented by Jeff Maxted, Technical Director BLP TIS.
