Description of the Xpanel/Xprecast SCIP Building System

The system is available in two variations utilising an insulative core and reinforced steel construction technology;

Xpanel

Xpanel, where the core panels are erected on site and microconcrete is applied on both sides of the panels utilising pneumatic concrete spraying equipment or formworks to create a monolithic structure. Xpanel is typically used to create external and internal walls, floors, flat roofs and staircases;

  • Monolithic wet-joint Structure: Panels (vertical, horizontal, inclined) are tied together seamlessly without visible joints to create a continuous reinforced system.
  • Panel Composition: 15 kg/m³ EPS core (30–200 mm thick) sandwiched between welded wire meshes (4 mm diameter galvanised steel, 100 mm spacing) connected through the core with angled electro-welded steel connectors. Alternative insulation (PIR, stone wool) for thermal or acoustic properties can be used if required.
  • Structural Performance: Strength comes from composite action of site-applied microconcrete skins linked by diagonal connectors, functioning like a truss system, independent of the insulative core.
  • Panel Dimensions & Adaptability: Standard width 1.22 m, wall length variable but typically 4 m (determined by structural calculations & transport limitations); connector density variable depending on loadbearing or non-loadbearing use.
  • Design & Foundations: Systems are designed to BS EN 1992-1-1 (Eurocode 2) with UK structural codes; panels erected on site-specific foundations/podiums capable of carrying loads and ensuring at least 60 years durability.
  • Integration: Xpanel walls can also be integrated into conventional building methods (such as steel frame construction, concrete frame construction etc).

Xprecast

Xprecast, whereby the core panels are incorporated into factory produced precast concrete panels using formwork systems and are intended for use in load-bearing and non-load bearing wall constructions (external and internal). In this variation, floors, flat roofs and stairs are usually conventional precast concrete or cast insitu concrete floors, however a precast version of Xpanel floor panels may also be used.

  • Panels are the same as Xpanel in performance, with the exception of the concrete skins being applied at factory in conventional precast concrete moulds and different inter-panel connection details.
  • Suitable for loadbearing and non-loadbearing wall constructions, both internal and external.
  • Can be used for horizontal elements if concrete skin is increased (variable by design).
  • Manufactured in 1.22 m widths with variable lengths, the industrialised EPS panel is adaptable to project requirements, including integration of openings and MEP.

Durability and Maintainability Assessment: Minimum of 60 years

Limits on Scope:

• Maximum four storeys with a maximum storey height of 4m (may go higher subject to structural justification, incorporation of additional structure subject to compliance with UK structural codes );

• X8 Tech Industries LLC, and its subsidiary companies, must be contracted for the design, manufacture, supply and erection of the structure;

• A qualified structural engineer suitably experienced in the design of this type of structure must be engaged for the structural design and analysis.
